BUDC Reaches Out To The Less Privileged

Bahria University Dental College (BUDC), pursued its practice of reaching out to the underprivileged sections of our society, for guiding and educating them about the basic fundamentals of Oral health, its significance in an individual’s life and its impact at community level.

For the attainment of this purpose, an “Oral Health and Hygiene Awareness Session” was carried out by the CSP (Community Support Program) team of BUDC at Noor Public School located within Hijrat Colony Civil Lines.

The CSP team comprised of Senior Lecturers of Community and Preventive Dentistry’s Department,  Dr. Raima Bashir, Dr. Nazish Zafar, Dr. Sidra Farooqui, along with students of 2nd year BDS, under the supervision of Dr. Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi, Vice principal and H.O.D of Community Dentistry, BUDC. All were warmly welcomed by the school principal and their faculty members.

The team was divided into 3 groups, which dispersed in different classrooms to proceed with the session and examinations.

The session was aimed at providing preliminary dental knowledge to young children. At first, the children were very nervous and shy but, eventually became interactive. The key message session was based on ‘tooth brushing’ techniques and its demonstration was performed on models, ‘healthy eating habits’ were discussed to prevent dental diseases.

After the session, dental checkup was carried out by the students of 2nd year BDS, under the supervision of their faculty, to familiarize them with the clinical presentations of dental diseases. Oral Health activity sheets were also distributed amongst the children, to make learning a fun filled experience.

The school principal appreciated the efforts of BUDC team on the execution of an instructive Oral Health Awareness trip, and insisted on conducting such sessions more often.

Lastly, Oral hygiene kits were distributed amongst the school children to promote and implement oral hygiene practice. Students of 2nd year BDS, immensely enjoyed their first community trip, and narrated it as a good learning experience.
