BUM&DC Convocation - 91 graduates awarded degrees

By Our Staff Reporter KARACHI- As many as 91 fresh graduates of the city’s Bahria University Medical & Dental College were awarded degrees at its second convocation. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, who is also Pro-Chancellor of Bahria University, presented gold and silver medals to Maryam Irshad and Shireen Sabir Ansari, respectively, on their outstanding performance in their academic pursuits. Asifa Qasim, Ali Usman and Zulqarnain Haider, who achieved distinction in their respective departments, were also honoured with commendation certificates. Felicitating the graduates, Admiral Zakaullah said: “Today we are facing increasingly fierce and complex health issues. The young doctors are a great asset for our nation and we have high hopes and expectations that they will play a vital role in combating health problems and issues of our people,” he added. The Naval Chief advised the graduates to be men and women of sterling character, have a positive attitude towards life, and sacrifice your personal gains for the national interests. He also lauded Bahria University Medical and Dental College's (BUM&DC) contributions in imparting the requisite education, saying the College is on the forefront in conceiving and implementing initiatives and programmes with special focus on grooming and capacity building of the medical students. He assured that support of Pakistan Navy will always be there to provide facilitation in their future endeavours. In his welcome address, Bahria University’s Rector  Vice Admiral (retd) Tanveer Faiz, said that the universities have great responsibility of producing quality graduates who could contribute positively in various fields. Bahria University will leave no stone unturned in keeping its students abreast with high quality education and at par with other medical universities of the world. Referring to Bahria University's commitment to provide best possible teaching and learning environment to its students, the Rector said that Bahria University has provided a dedicated, experienced and highly qualified faculty that stands as a testament to this commitment. He said that it is this coherent team and their zealous effort that has led to recognition of our MBBS programme by PMDC (Pakistan Medical & Dental College) for 150 seats with flying scores and grades. He also briefed about the institutional tools available for scholastic inquiry, training and research at Bahria Medical & Dental College. Senior officials of the education sector, naval officers and parents of the graduates were present on the occasion.
