KARACHI- An inter-collegiate sports gala was held recently at Bahria University Islamabad Campus. Five medical colleges participated in the event which included; Barhia University Medical & Dental College ,Yusra Medical & Dental College, Islamabad Medical & Dental College, Frontier Medical & Dental College and Rawal Institute Of Health Sciences.
A team from BUMDC Karachi, comprising of 36 students (18 girls & 18 boys) along with faculty members - Dr. Naveed Faraz (Assistant Professor, Pathology department, BUMDC), Dr. S. H. Afsheen Nazar (Demonstrator, Pharmacology department, BUMDC), Dr. Omer Moosani (Lecturer, Dental Materials, BUMDC) and Sheikh Saifuddin (PA to Principal) also attended the event.
The accommodation for girls was arranged at Bahria University Girls Hostel, located at Bahria University Islamabad campus, whereas the boys were accommodated at Islamabad Sports Complex.
On 27th April 2015, a wonderful opening ceremony was held at the Bahria University Islamabad Auditorium. Team BUMDC participated in three indoor games i.e. Basketball (girls & boys), Table tennis (girls & boys) and Badminton (girls & boys).
In the female category BUMDC showed remarkable performance by winning the Basketball and Table tennis competitions. In the basketball competition Tooba Javaid, Palwasha (1st year BDS) ,and Sadaf Shamim (3rd year BDS) were the best performers. The gymnasium roared with slogans of Bahria University, encouraging the team from Karachi.
In the table tennis competition Maimona (3rd year BDS) and Miznah played very well, winning the competition. On 28th April 2015, Badminton matches were held, where the boys’ team of BUMDC won the runner’s up trophy, while the girls’ team stood 3rd. Tooba Javaid won the Best female player trophy.
Chief guest for the occasion was the RECTOR of Bahira University along with PRO RECTOR and DIRECTOR HEALTH SCIENCES.
Apon their return to Karachi, a warm welcome was awaiting the team, as they entered the Karachi campus of BUMDC on 30th April 2015. Principal BUMDC, Prof. Dr. Shaheen Moin, DG BUMDC Vice Admiral (Retd) Tahseenullah Khan, HI(M), Principal Dental Section Prof. Dr. Zubair Ahmed Abbasi, senior faculty members and students welcomed their sports team. Refreshments were served and all senior and junior faculty members commended the members of their sports team for their efforts.
The Principal BUMDC, Prof. Dr. ShaheenMoin, announced a formal dinner for the team to be held in the following week.-PR
