Coronavirus cases soar to 1,408 in Pakistan

KARACHI: The Sindh Health Department confirmed eight new coronavirus cases in the Sindh province in the last 24 hours, taking the reported case toll to 421 in the province.

Media Coordinator to the Health Minister, Meeran Yousuf, said that a total of 421 coronavirus patients had been reported across the Sindh province to date, out of which 265 are from Taftan, 153 are from Karachi, and one each is from Hyderabad and Dadu.

She further informed that 14 people have recovered from the disease in the Sindh province while 141 are still under treatment in Karachi. She further informed 102 were locally transmitted cases out of Karachi’s total 156 cases.

A total of 1408 coronavirus cases have been detected all over the country to date, out of which 457 were reported in Sindh, 490 in Punjab, 133 in Baluchistan, 180 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 107 in Gilgit- Baltistan, 39 in Islamabad, and two in Azad Jammu Kashmir.

Eight deaths due to the coronavirus have also been recorded in the country, out of which three are from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two are from Punjab, and one each is from Sindh, Baluchistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan, according to government data.

Globally, 200 countries have been affected by this ailment. More than 22,181 people have died, and the disease has infected more than 495,758 as it continues to spread to new territories. Around 113,506 have recovered from the illness, whereas 13,637 are in serious condition.

The epicenter of the outbreak has now shifted to Europe, especially Italy, which is recording a rapid rise in new cases and deaths every day.
