Doctor’s suicide case takes a new twist, harassment allegations surface

KARACHI: Dr Maha’s suicide has taken a new twist after police registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s father against three people on charges under abuse, blackmailing and forcing her to shoot herself.
Dr Maha’s father has given an application for registration of a case against the three characters who forced Dr Maha to commit suicide at Gizri police station.
According to police sources, Dr Maha’s father alleged in the application that the role of the three persons was the reason for his daughter s suicide as they were harassing her.
The applicant has accused Junaid, a friend of Maha Ali for many years, a renowned dentist at a well-known Clifton hospital, and Dr Waqas for Dr Maha’s suicide.
According to police, the application also mentions a fourth person who took a pistol from his friend and gave it to the deceased. Tabish and Saad have already been arrested and remanded in the case registered on the charge of giving pistol.
Her father alleged that a friend and two doctors used to harass Dr Maha which forced her to end her own life. The family also claimed that she was allegedly made addictive of drug substances, added sources.
According to police officials, there is no provision for filing a case against committing suicide, but action can be taken against those responsible for her death. Legal advice is being sought from senior police officers and expert investigators on the application.
