Peshawar Dental College is a prestigious institution providing undergraduate/postgraduate dental education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It celebrates national as well as international activities pertaining to oral health including World Oral Health Day that is globally cerebrated by FDI on 20th March each year. WOHD has been celebrated by PDC each year since 2011, but this year their celebrations were off the charts.
An organizing committee was formed by Principal/Dean PDC to celebrate this function to its fullest extent. A well organized function was thus arranged in the premises of Peshawar Dental College Peshawar.
The function started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Dr. Asia Muhammad, while Dr. Tania Rashid performed the duties of stage secretary.
The Principal/Dean Prof. Dr. Talat Firdos in her welcome address emphasized the maintenance of oral & dental health and its relationship with general health. Prof. Dr. Hafeez Ur Rehman Vice Dean Peshawar Medical College in his speech said that Holy Prophet (SAWS) advised brushing teeth with Miswak regularly. He stressed upon the maintainance of dental health and asked to make it a mission.
Prof. Dr. Fazl e Ghani, in his speech, greatly appreciated the efforts by FDI to observe WOHD each year to reaffirm the importance of oral health and its relationship with general health.
A walk was arranged on this occasion. Executive Director Dr. Syed Iftikhar Husain, Vice Dean Academics Prof. Dr. Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chief Executive Officer Prime Medical Complex Dr. Abdus Samad, Prof. Dr. Aman Safi, Prof. Dr. Shamim Akhtar, Prof. Dr. Syed Amjad Shah, other faculty members and students of PDC participated in the walk holding banners with the slogan “Live Mouth Smart” WOHD 2017. The female students were wearing red dupattas to celebrate this occasion.
In the PDC lawns, ten stalls were set up by the students and faculty to advise patients regarding healthy food choices along with oral hygiene instructions. The event ended at 1:30 pm with certificate distribution to those who participated in the photography competition, poster competitions, and poetry competition.
The members of organizing committee Prof. Dr. Qazi Javed Akhtar, Dr. Amir Hameed and Dr. Zia Ur Rehman thanked all the respected faculty of PMC/PDC, students and staff for their cooperation and support.
Dental News Pakistan with Shield arranged stalls and distributed free tooth pastes and toothbrushes to the patients. Free dental checkup of 360 patients was carried out by the faculty and staff. Besides this, videos were also shown to the patients to educate them regarding the maintenance of oral health along with useful instructions.
