Filtek Z-350XT outshines all composites



Amsterdam (Netherlands) — Drs. Hein de Kloet, Arnhem have declared that Z-450XT is a high-performance, versatile nano-composite, says a press release.

According to the press release, the product has excellent aesthetics for anterior restorations and strong enough for posterior restorations.

The polish retention of Filtek™ Z350 XT restorative has been proved to be superior to other composites and even microfills, thanks to the patented process used to build the nanocomposite.
This process creates unique clusters of nanometer-sized particles, these nanoclusters shear at a rate similar to the wear of the surrounding resin matrix during abrasion. This allows the restoration to maintain a smoother surface, meaning the initial impressive gloss will last for years.
The “true” nanotechnology provides wear resistance similar to enamel
A recent 5-year clinical study measuring “occlusal contact wear”, showed no statistically significant difference between Filtek™ Supreme Universal Restorative and enamel.
Because Filtek™ Z350 XT restorative is derived from the same patented nanotechnology, and in vitro lab data has shown it has a wear resistance equivalent to Filtek™ Supreme XT restorative, you can be confident using it anywhere in the mouth.
Polish Retention
Polish retention was determined by a toothbrush abrasion test
Composite materials
were shaped into tiles and thoroughly cured
u The surfaces were polished wet using a Beuhler variable-speed grinder-polisher
u They were stored in water at 37ºC for 24 hours.
u Gloss was measured.
The samples were brushed with toothpaste and a toothbrush
u The toothbrush was mounted on an Automatic Toothbrush Machine.
u Gloss measurements were taken after 500 cycles and then every 1000 cycles.
u The test was terminated after 6000 toothbrush strokes.

Wear Rate
The wear rate was determined by an in vitro 3-body wear test.
u Composite (1st body) is loaded onto a wheel, which contacts another wheel acting as an “antagonistic cusp” (2nd body).
u The two wheels counter-rotate against one another, dragging abrasive slurry (3rd body) between them.
u Dimensional loss during 156,000 cycles is determined by profilometry at regular intervals
As the wear in this method typically follows a linear pattern, the data is plotted using linear regression. The wear rates, i.e., the slope of the lines, are determined. The comparison of rates reduces some of the variability in the test due to sample preparation and can be predictive of anticipated wear beyond the length of the actual test.
The lower the wear rate, the better the wear resistance. The wear rate of Filtek™ Z350 XT Universal Restorative DEB shades and T shades is comparable to the 3-body wear of Filtek™ Supreme XT Universal Restorative. The 3-body wear rate is statistically significantly lower (more wear resistant) than the microfills Durafill VS and Renamel Microfill.
In addition, it is statistically lower than CeramX Mono, Estelite Sigma Quick, EsthetX HD, Gradia Direct X, Grandio, Herculite XRV Z350 XT, Premise, Tetric EvoCeram, TPH3 and Venus universal restoratives.
