First White Coat Ceremony (WCC) at HBS Medical & Dental College

Faculty and administration of the HBS Medical and Dental College recently celebrated their first White Coat Ceremony welcoming new dental and medical students at the main campus. During the ceremony, a white coat was placed on each student’s shoulders and the Hippocratic Oath was recited by Principal Medical Section Prof. Dr Zahir Abbasi and Principal Dental Section Prof. Dr Arshad Mahmood Malik signifying the students’ entrance into the medical profession.

Chairman HBS Medical and Dental College Dr Riaz Shahbaz Janjua addressed the students, speaking about their career building, and advised them on how they should approach being a good doctor. He also spotlighted on professionalism and professional identity that broadened the view of students.

Director of Medical Education Dr Jamila Riaz welcomed the students in her speech and spoke about hierarchy of authorities; how students can easily approach for assistance from faculty and higher management and feel free in communicating. Prof. Dr Arshad Mahmood Malik congratulated the students on their white coat ceremony and briefly explained the history of Hippocratic Oath, as well as the importance of this oath.

White Coat Ceremony, a relatively new ritual, symbolizes formal entrance into the healing profession. In this ceremony students have their hands christened and recite the ceremonial oath to uphold the highest standards in care and service to others. Formal coating of students is typically involved in this event.
