Hands-on workshop on 'Invisible Orthodontics' at IADSR

LAHORE: The Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR) recently conducted a one-day workshop on Invisible Orthodontics in collaboration with ClearPath. The workshop was held on August 25, 2019, and was the first workshop of IADSR 9th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD). Dr Waqas Wahab, BDS, and CEO of ClearPath, a highly renowned and eminent international speaker, facilitated the workshop. The event started with a brief history and explanation on the evolution of clear aligners and the difference between braces and clear aligners.

On the contrary to braces, clear aligners do not affect oral hygiene, are comfortable and convenient, and cause no change in eating habits and lifestyle. He explained the working of aligners along with its limitations and case selection parameters. Absolute extrusion and relative extrusion were focused as the case selection parameter. Dr Waqas Wahab further taught the two-step impression taking technique with PVS, which is required for record submission to aligner’s manufacturer, and participants were allowed to perform the technique on the patients. The facilitator pointed out faulty impressions and addressed the complications faced by the participants during the process. The participants also performed interproximal reductions. Instructions on the insertion of the aligner were delivered to the participants. Dr Waqas focused on the importance of photographs, x-rays, and bite registration while submitting the case records of a patient. Orthodontic physiology, monitoring of aligners, and patients’ uses of auxiliaries with aligners were also taught to the workshop’s participants. The facilitators demonstrated the Elastic Button Technique (E.B.T) to the participants as well. The workshop was concluded by accomplishing its respective learning objectives.
