-by Dr Muntaha Tariq

The mouth is the only gate-way of food to your stomach. So it’s mandatory to take care of your mouth and maintain good oral hygiene. Along with that, a good diet at regular timings and frequent water intake are important. That will finally keep your body healthy, energetic, and make your immune system strong.

Health mouth is in your hand!

It should include fresh fruits, vegetables, carbohydrates, meat, poultry, dairy products, and nuts. So that it will fulfil the body’s requirement of different vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, and minerals. These nutrients play a major role in the growth, development, and maintenance of the body. All are very important in the diet but vitamin C has more weightage. Because it has a major role in wound healing all over the body as well as helps to maintain good oral status.

As you all know that excess or deficiency of anything is dangerous. The same rule is for nutrients intake too. Their deficiency will affect the development of oral structures as well as weakens the bones and other body systems too. Their excess will also have destructive effects on the body. So for prevention, it is better to maintain good oral hygiene and take a healthy diet at regular meal times.

The toxic truth about 'Modern Diet'

In this modern era, people, unfortunately, like to eat junk food and fizzy drinks other than meal times too. Due to improper cleaning after the sticky or sugary food, it remains attached to the teeth for a longer duration. Firstly it makes the teeth susceptible to cavities due to bad hygiene and acidic ph. Secondly, it causes tooth loss and has destructive effects on the structure and function of other important structures too. Finally, it affects the whole body systems one by one or simultaneously.

Some people like pan, sipari, niswar, tobacco, alcohol, and smoking in their free time. That has only destructive effects on their teeth as well as the whole body. Especially smoking and alcohol when simultaneously occurs make the teeth and mucosa of the mouth more prone to ulcers and infections. Finally makes the oral cavity more susceptible to cancer.

Healthy mouth: A better way forward

As everyone wants to live their life happily with their loved ones and wants to make every moment of their life memorable. It is important to take care of your oral hygiene as well as your diet.
