Heat Wave Alert; Issued In KMC Hospitals

KARACHI- In light of city’s current weather conditions, Medical & Health Services Department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has alerted all KMC run hospitals against Heat Wave, all over the city of Karachi, while rescue 1122 ambulance services are to remain on standby during heatstroke emergencies.


Senior Director, Medical & Health Services, KMC, Dr. Birbal, stated as per directives of city Mayor that, Karachi is facing massive heat wave, that is reportedly going to continue for a quite a number of days, therefore high alert has been declared with immediate effect, within all health facilities of KMC.


Focal persons have been appointed and directed to ensure their availability, along with their staff’s punctuality and devotion towards duties. Dr. Birbal has ensued strict compliance policy, and those failing will be taken as defaulters as per E & D rules.


Furthermore, he informed that, KMC has setup 50 bedded Heatstroke Centers at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, 10 bedded at Sarfraz Rafiqui Shaheed Hospital, 10 bedded  in Sobhraj Maternity Hospital, 10 bedded Landhi Medical Centre, 16 bedded in Spencer Eye Hospital, 10 bedded Landhi Cardiac Centre and  12 bedded at Primary Healthcare Centre  Lyari. He has also urged all concerned medical superintendents to update and send daily statistics to him.


The Heatstroke Centers are also operational at Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and other hospitals of Karachi, after a notable increase in temperature levels of the city.
