IADSR workshop: 'Dental Implants for the General Dental Practitioner'

LAHORE: A one-day workshop on dental implants for the General Practitioner was, recently, held at the Institute of Advanced Dental Sciences and Research (IADSR). The workshop was organized as part of the curriculum for the IADSR 9th Professional Diploma in Advanced General Dentistry (PDAGD).

It was facilitated by eminent and renowned dentist, Prof Dr Amin-ur-Rahman, a faculty member of the prestigious University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA.

The workshop was initiated by a brief overview of implants' statistics and their historical background. Dr Amin explained the relationship of alveolar bone to teeth and implants. Implants materials and types of implants such as tissue level implant and bone level implant were also discussed in detail.

Furthermore, Prof Amin discussed different surgical procedure guidelines and their steps with the participants. He emphasized that a successful implant depends on communication and proper planning, and shed light on implant failures, including early and late failures. Implant cases such as single tooth replacement, multiple tooth replacement, and cemented screw-retained prosthesis were discussed with the participants to make the session interactive.

The participants enthusiastically performed the hands-on session on typodonts models. The facilitator’s team solved the problems faced during practice. The session concluded with highly positive feedback from the participants.
