Karachi: A competition was recently organized among the final year students of Bahria University Medical and Dental College (BUMDC). The event was held under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Shama Asghar. The aim of the competition was to design and refine the creativity of the students.

The students were divided into five groups with three contestants each. The students were assigned a topic around which they were asked to prepare a clinical scenario. The topics included ‘Pulpectomy vs. Extraction’, ‘Pulp Cap vs Root Canal Treatment’, ‘Apicectomy’, ‘Flare up of Root Canal Treatment’ and ‘Tooth Necrosis.’

All groups under the supervision of their facilitators, Dr. Umeed and Dr. Adeel came up with realistic, intelligent yet hilarious scenarios commonly encountered during dental practice. The competition was judged by Dr. Farnaz and Dr. Kiran. After the performances, group 1 comprising of Maisem, Maryam and Wardah with the topic ‘Pulpectomy vs Extraction’ were declared victorious. The judges and the Head of the Department, Dr. Shama appreciated the effort and skills of the students and further stressed on the importance of empathy, listening to the patient and building a rapport with them towards over all healing of the individual.
