MDCAT: PMC seeks clarification from Sindh

Karachi: In a recent notification released by Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), the Chairman Provisional Admission Committee of Sindh have been asked to clarify the criteria to conduct Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) in the province. The notification highlighted that notification release, earlier, has created confusion among students which needs to be clarified.

'National MDCAT is mandatory'

The official notification stated that though PMC act gave the right to the provincial government to determine the admission policy and conduct admissions to all public colleges in the province. However, PMC act clearly mentioned that the students seeking admission in public and private medical and dental colleges had to pass National MDCAT conducted by PMC all over Pakistan. The weightage given to the National MDCAT will be 50% at the minimum purposes of determining merit in public colleges.

'Entry test by Province is an additional criteria'

"Therefore, the entry test being conducted by the Provincial Admission Committee of Sindh is presumed to be additional criteria for students seeking admission in Public Colleges in Sindh," the notification stated.

'Provincial entry test is only for public colleges, not for private ones'

The notification further said that the entry test cannot be made mandatory for admission in private colleges since the Provincial government right to frame policy is restricted to public colleges, only.
