Motivating Youngsters to Join Dentistry


KOCHI: Cochin Periodontist Society, the first professional society for periodontics, which has been in existence since 2005 held a two-day national conference on research - ‘ReCops’ on October 28 and 29 at Hotel Renai, Palarivattom, Kochi.The conference was inaugurated by Dr M K C Nair, the Vice-Chancellor, KUHS, Thrissur in a grand function chaired by the president of COPS, Dr Sanjeev R.



The chief guest delivered a power-packed speech which was aimed at motivating young dental professionals. He emphasised upon the importance of highlighting the various research opportunities available to the dental graduates and post graduates. He called for immediate action by all stake holders to extend dental treatment to the primary care level. He asked the authorities to create a sufficient number of posts and to see that the infrastructure is improved to set up dental clinics in every panchayat in Kerala.


The function was graced by many stalwarts in the field, Padmasree Dr Anil Kohli, past president, Dental Council of India and Padma awardee Dr Mahesh Verma, principal, MIDS, New Delhi were guests of honour. Dr Sabu Kurian, president, IDA Kerala state, Dr Shaji K Joseph, president, Kerala State Dental Council and Dr Thomas Manjooran, dean, faculty of dentistry, KUHS, were also guests of honour for the function.


Dr Jose Paul, conference director, Dr Raju Kurien Ninan, organising chairman and Dr Sanil P George also spoke on the occasion.The two-day national conference, attended by around 450 delegates, witnessed guest lectures, keynote sessions and training programmes in dental research apart from awarding of scholarships and prizes for presentations by post graduate and undergraduate students from all over the country.
