KARACHI: The Oral Biology Department at the Fatima Jinnah Dental College and Hospital held its annual model and poster competition. The event was organized by Senior Lecturer, Dr Rafia Ruaazand, and her team of demonstrators.
The competition aimed to encourage students to create, and present posters and models on various topics taught during the academic year. The guest of honor at the event was the CEO of Fatima Jinnah Dental College and Hospital, Dr Baqar Askary, and Vice Principal, Dr Sabiha Mirza. The competition was judged by Dr Rizwan from JSMU, Dr Sadaf Mashood from LCMD, and Dr Ambrin Zehra from AIDM, all of whom head the Oral Biology department at their respective colleges. The internal judge for the event was Dr Nosheen Khawar (Head of Department, Dental Materials, FJDC).
Prizes were awarded separately to the models and posters that were judged on the basis of presentation, creativity and core knowledge of the topic selected. The model titled, ‘Principal fiber groups of periodontal ligament and gingiva’ was chosen as the winner while amongst the posters, ‘Significance of lasers in oral biology’ emerged as the winner.
Gifts and certificates were awarded to the winning teams, and participation certificates were distributed to the rest of class. Dr Baqar Askary, along with the judges, appreciated the participants’ efforts and commended this method of group activity based learning. He encouraged such competitions to be held in the future also.
