Pediatric and Restorative Dentistry Workshop: writing new history for R&D

LAHORE- A Pediatric and Restorative Dentistry Workshop organized with the collaborative efforts between International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Pakistan Section & Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Biomedical Materials (IRCBM) and COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Lahore. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Ferranti S.L. Wong (Professor/Honorary Consultant, Head of Pediatric Dentistry, Barts and The London Dental School, Queen Mary University of London, United Kingdom). Dr. Abdul Samad Khan (IRCBM, Executive Director, IADR Pakistan Section) and Dr. Nasir Saleem (Assistant Professor, CMH Lahore Medical College) facilitated the proceedings. Plenary Lectures were pivoted on the subject of Evolution/Revolution, encompassing topics on: " Advances in Caries Management for Children " Advances in management of Traumatized Teeth in Children " Advances in management of enamel anomalies in children. The 'hands-on' workshop dealt with: " Management of Traumatized Teeth " Use of glass fiber post for restoration of teeth " Use of ICON in management of tooth anomalies and early carious lesions (First time in Pakistan) Interactive discussions on the advances in management of pediatric patients where the key features, as also a workshop provided the unique opportunity of a hands-on experience of using ICON - the revolutionary treatment of incipient caries and white spot lesions with no drilling done. This workshop also included a 'hands-on experience of a modern splinting technique for traumatized teeth', a 'hands-on experience of restoring teeth with fibre posts (EverStick)'. This workshop was open for an exclusive audience only, thereby ensuring a much focused training of those present on an individualistic level. This was an open forum for discussion, on a micro scale, of the various problems faced by dental surgeons, writing new annals for research and development, and the advances in dental techniques for better patient care. The workshop was largely attended by private practitioners, clinicians, faculty members, and postgraduate students from CMH Lahore Medical College, Fatima Memorial Hospital, Sharif Medical & Dental College, University of Lahore, Islamabad Medical and Dental College, de'Montmorency College of Dentistry, and COMSATS Institute of Information Technology.
