PMC to assist HEC in regularisation of medical, dental colleges

Islamabad: In a recent notification, Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) appointed Higher Education Commission (HEC) as the primary educational regulator of medical and dental colleges and universities and extended assistance.

The notification stated that under section 19 of the PMC Act 2020, HEC had been required to regulate faculty's standard and structure in medical and dental institutions.

"Under Section 19 of the PMC Act 2020, all universities are required to ensure that all medical and dental college seeking affiliation or affiliated to them fulfil and maintain the Accreditation Standards and follow the necessary Medical and Dental Curriculum subject to the teaching methodology followed by a college to be determined and approved by the university," the notification read.

"PMC shall be available to provide the required assistance and formulate a phase-wise plan for the transfer of requisite knowledge, record, and information," the official document mentioned.

Recruitment and promotion of faculty will be done as per HEC's standards

In another follow-up letter by PMC, It was stated that the standard and structure of the faculty in Medical and Dental varsities would be regulated as prescribed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), according to section 19(5) of the PMC Act 2020.

"Any issue about faculty hiring or promotion be dealt with under the prescribed regulations of HEC or may be referred to the Medical Tribunal."
