Punjab takes the lead in banning fizzy drinks

PUNJAB- Carbonated beverages and energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine and phosphoric acid which have been found to impact and inhibit proper growth and development in growing children. These drinks are particularly dangerous for children as they weaken growing bones in the body. The Punjab Food Authority has therefore decided on the basis of their Educational Institutions’ Food Standard Regulations 2017, that following 14th August 2017, the sale of any sort of carbonated beverage or energy drink will become illegal in or within 100 meters of any public or private educational institute, be it a school, college, university, academy or other.
