KARACHI: The Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Society of Pakistan (MMIDSP) for infection prevention in Sindh.
The SHCC and MMIDSP signed an MOU to support infection prevention in Sindh through training healthcare professionals. The MMIDSP will provide training assistance to the SHCC in conducting infection control workshops, developing a training module, and training the appropriate staff employed in various healthcare establishments (HCEs’) such as lady health workers and supervisor as Master Trainers to facilitate the subsequent training of hospital staff.
Dr Ahmed Raza Kazmi, Director Clinical Governance & Training, SHCC, and Dr Bushra Jamil, Head of MMIDSP, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
Separately, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), SHCC, with reference to his earlier meeting with Anti-Narcotic Force Commander, Brig Mansoor, held a meeting with Col Syed Majid Sherazi to discuss the measures to be taken for prevention and control of reused syringes among drug addicts especially in the Larkana region of the Sindh province.
Similarly, CEO, SHCC, Dr Minhaj Qidwai, instigated hospitals to start Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities related to waste disposal in their catchment areas. In this regard, the CEO met with the CEOs’ of Murshid Hospital and Darul Sehat Hospital.
The hospitals were requested to offer waste disposal support services for the clinics and small hospitals in their catchment areas. Awareness programs will be initiated in these hospitals to sensitize other hospitals and clinics for ensuring their medical waste disposal as per guidelines.
The Directorate of Anti-Quackery, SHCC, arranged an awareness session titled “Role of Healthcare Providers in Infection Preventions and Control” in Tando Adam on August 7, 2019.
PMA Shahdadpur and Tando Adam hosted this awareness session. More than 200 doctors and health workers attended the session.

The Directorate of Anti-Quackery, SHCC, has sealed 180 more clinics recently. A total of 2047 healthcare establishments (HCEs) have been sealed across the province so far.
The Directorate of Clinical Governance and Training held a training session for PPHIin Hyderabad for primary healthcare and clinical standards.
The Directorate of Complaint, SHCC, has received a total of 93 complaints till date out of which 50 complaints have been disposed of, 37 complaints are under process, while 6 are sub-judice.
The Directorate of Licensing and Accreditation has received 399 new applications for registration recently taking the total number of requests for registration to 8782. The certificates were issued to 366 HCEs recently bringing the total number of registration certificates issued to HCEs to 5948.
One hundred sixty-one warnings were issued to unregistered health facilities, and 1472 warnings have been issued to unregistered HCEs so far. The team also inspected the Khairunisa Eye Hospital in Karachi recently.
