Karachi: World Oral Health Day held annually around the world, focusing on raising awareness regarding the importance of good Oral Health. Every year, this celebration is based on a new and specific theme. The theme for WOHD ‘2018 was ‘Say Ahh: Think Mouth, Think Health’.
An important event for the entire community, World Oral Health Day is an initiative that hopes to contribute in increasing the number of people in the world who never face oral health issues, to over 10% of the world’s population.
To promote awareness regarding such oral health issues, Sindh Institute of Oral Health Sciences carried out screenings and awareness programs at Thalassemia Kashif Trust Center & Foot Path School children. It was organized by the Head of Community and Preventive Dentistry Department, Dr. Mariam Azfar under the auspices of Dean, SIOHS Prof. Dr. S.M.Kefi Iqbal. The faculty of Dentistry & SIOHS students enthusiastically participated in the event and were fully committed towards this cause.
Approximately, 100 patients got free check ups done at the Dental OPD. Light on the oral health issues was shed in a simple and engaging manner, to teach everyone about the benefits and importance of maintaining good oral hygiene, in order to reduce the risk of associated health complications.
A string of vibrant activities was also held to motivate people on this occasion. A Brush up Selfie Challenge was arranged by the Student Council JSMU amongst the residents & dental schools of Karachi. The competition was judged by Senior Faculty members of JSMU. Student of Dow University of Health Sciences won the prize.
Dean, Faculty of Dentistry SIOHS Prof. Dr. S.M.Kefi Iqbal concluded the event by highlighting the importance of Oral Health. He lauded the efforts of the faculty of dentistry for organizing such an informative and successful event. He also appreciated the dental students for their active participation in raising awareness regarding different aspects of dental health and oral hygiene.
Chief Guest Prof. Dr. S.M.Tariq Rafi Vice Chancellor, JSMU, & Prof. Lubna Baig Pro-Vice Chancellor, JSMU distributed the prize & certificates to the participants and winners. The event was concluded by a cake cutting ceremony.
