The Dental Surgery Event of the Year

A Peek into the 10th PCOMS Karachi 2017


KARACHI - Pakistan Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (PAOMS), at the end of the prosperous year of 2017, organized one of the most prominent and significant dental events of Pakistan’s dental world, namely the Pakistan Conference of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. The event was held on a grand scale at the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, and was attended by numerous dental surgeons and professionals from across the country. The grand Event spanned across 3 days and in addition to scientific sessions, workshops and symposiums, also included the PAOMS elections and convocation.



The elections of PAOMS involved prominent names in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery contending for various positions in the association. More than 550 consultants and trainees voted and elected their representatives. Contenders played with good zeal, and accepted the results of the election in a very graceful way.


A great number of senior national and international speakers were invited to speak at the event’s plenary sessions and symposiums. Honourable senior dentists and renowned names of Pakistan dentistry, talented and successful dental surgeons, and energetic, promising young PGs could be seen in great numbers at the event.



The conference’s opening ceremony was a great experience, where Prof Nazia Yazdanie presented "Prof Saleem Cheema Memorial Lecturer" and enlightened the audience with great memories of the history of dentistry in Pakistan.


Notable speakers then gave their distinguished lectures on various disciplines of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The topics discussed in the scientific program varied from latest surgical practices and techniques, to elucidation of international dental surgery and comparison to the trends of dental surgery found in Pakistan. The illustrious speakers included Dr Christoph Sproll from Germany, Dr Rui Fernandes from US Florida, Dr Majeed Rana from Germany, Dr Daman Deep Singh from Germany, Prof Kumara Ekanayake from Ireland, and Dr S. M. Balaji from India.


In addition to the enlightening lectures, the scientific program also included hands-on workshops on flap surgery on Cadaver; dental implants, facial aesthetics, rhinoplasty, distraction osteogenesis; and a Masterclass on local and regional flaps, computer aided dental implantology, alternatives to reconstruction, and cleft lip and palate.



The academic partners of PAOMS in this prestigious event were Faculty of Medicine, University of Karachi; Higher Education Commission (HEC); International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (IAOMS), CPSP, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), and Pakistan Dental Association (PDA).
