World Oral Health Day Bill passed unanimously in Pakistan

Karachi: Dr Arif Alvi the renowned dentist and member of National Assembly, moved a resolution in the National Assembly on 25th February 2014 asking the government to celebrate the World Oral Health Day every year. The resolution was unanimously adopted that the Government of Pakistan should celebrate the ‘World Oral Health Day’ on 20th March of every year Dr Alvi the former president of Pakistan Dental Association and the Ex-Councillor of FDI delivered a speech on Oral Health, on Oral Diseases, Caries, Periodontitis etc after which the resolution was tabled and passed unanimously. Dr Alvi lobbied well to emphasize the importance of oral health and played a pivotal role in getting this resolution passed. The bill was supported by all the political parties. This year the Pakistan Dental Association with FDI is celebrating the day in 12 cities and 31 dental institutes across Pakistan. The celebrations are organized by Dental News with Shield Corporation as the sponsor. The World Oral Health Day 2014 will be inaugurated by Dr Arif Alvi on 20th March in Karachi. Talking to Dental News, Dr Arif Alvi extended congratulations to PDA and FDI on passing of the bill and hoped that this would a milestone in raising oral health in Pakistan.
