World Oral Health Day Celebration 2019, Bahria Dental College.

“Take care of your oral health to protect your mouth and body. Learn and act!!!”

 

On 20th March 2019, Imamia Medics international (IMI) Pakistan – Dental Wing organized an Oral Health Awareness Session in accordance with the World Oral Health Day. The session consisted of oral health related lectures based on this year’s World Oral Health Day theme: “Say Ahh: Act on Mouth Health” intended for health care professional and students working for improvement of systemic health and oral health of the public.

Dr Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi, Vice Principal Dental Section, and Head of Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry was invited as a Guest Speaker for the event to share her perspectives. She highlighted the different dental conditions prevailing amongst different age groups of our population and stressed special emphasis on ways of preventing it by individual efforts. At the end of the session Dr Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi was presented with a memoire souvenir to honor her presence and valuable contribution at the seminar.

Dr Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi was also invited as a Guest Speaker to share her knowledge and experience with the audience at a WOHD session organized by Baqai Dental College on March 27th. The seminar deliberation was on the theme: “Say Ahh: Act on Mouth Health”. Dr Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi presented a Lecture on the topic of “Public Health solutions for Oral Health”. She provided an insight about Dental public Health and highlighted the role of public health sector in preventing oral aliments and in improving the quality of life of people. The seminar concluded with honoring of each speaker with souvenirs presented by Mrs. Shehla Baqai, the founder of Baqai University in Pakistan.

Lastly, a field trip was organized by Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry, under the supervision of Dr Kulsoom Fatima Rizvi. The team comprised of senior lecturers from Dept. of Community Dentistry, 2nd year BDS students, house officers and dental assistants visited Behbood Secondary School located at Railway Colony Karachi. The aim of the program was to educate school children of Behbood Secondary School on the importance of oral health and maintenance of their oral hygiene through proper tooth brushing and ensuing healthy dietary practices. Overall 120 students from KG to grade V, aged between 4-12 years, were addressed. The session was divided into two parts. Session one consisted of verbal lecture on oral health education followed by demonstration of tooth brushing method, delivered by Senior Lecturers of Dept. of Community Dentistry, Dr Raima Bashir and Dr Sidra Farooqui. The second session included dental checkup of all the students, which was performed by 2nd year BDS students of Bahria. The program educed a good response from children, school teachers and the administration.
