World Oral Health Day celebrations at Sharif College of Dentistry

The College of Dentistry, Sharif Medical and Dental College, Lahore has been celebrating the World Oral Health day since many years. These celebrations include various academic activities that involve the faculty and students. These activities continue for an entire week and aim at increasing the knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of oral health, and the means to maintain it. Students from all four years of BDS participate in different activities assigned to them. There is organization of the dental camp that plays a pivotal role in enhancing the patient count in the clinics as well as acting as an awareness program for the patients.

As part of a dynamic series of activities organized by the college, First Year BDS participated in power point presentation competition.

The students of Second Year BDS participated in poster competition, where they designed posters on different themes of dentistry.  This activity was organized to increase the subject knowledge of the students and to improve their communication skills.

Another event organized by the college of dentistry was the quiz competition. The participants belonged to Third Year BDS. The esteemed Principal of College of Dentistry, SMDC, Prof. Col. Dr Iffat Batool Syed graced the occasion by her presence and valuable input.  The quiz comprised of four rounds, namely the discussion, buzzer, visual and lightening rounds, with questions from Oral Medicine, Periodontology and Oral Pathology.

Final Year students participated in table clinics; the topic of the table clinics were clinical oriented.

The College of Dentistry on the World Oral Health Day, 20th March 2019, organized an event to honor the winners of all the activities that took place during the week. It was attended by the Principal College of Dentistry, Prof. Col. Dr Iffat Batool, and Principal Sharif Medical and Dental College Prof. Brig. Zafar Ahmad. Prof. Dr Mohammad Yousaf was the chief guest of the event.

The dental fraternity participated in the event with enthusiasm and zeal. The students and house officers took part in it as well.

The objective of presentations on World Oral Health Day was to promote and emphasize the importance of oral health, regular dental examination and the preventive measures that can be taken to prevent oral diseases. It was followed by remarks from the chief guest who gave his valuable input on oral health and acknowledged the efforts of the College of Dentistry. In the end, certificates were distributed among the winning students.
