Karachi: Under the prestigious leadership of Prof Dr Navid Rashid Qureshi, DHPE advisors Prof Dr Tahera Ayub and Madam Dr Naheed Najmi, LCMD- Department of Health professions education college of dentistry organized Role play competition for clinical BDS years (3rd and 4th year students ) on 11th August 2022 .

Event was supervised and organized by DHPE incharge Dr Yusra Nasir and moderated by Dr Sabaa Shahid and Mr Moiz Majid. Dr Tahera ayub-Incharge Qamar dental hospital was invited as chief guest, Internal judge was respected Prof.Dr.Rizwan Azami-Director medical services Dar ul Sehat hospital whereas External Judges and Guests of honours were invited from Karachi’s major institute’s Medical education department. Dr Shazia Babar from Agha Khan university, Dr Shahid Mitha –Fatima Jinnah Dental college and Dr Rooha Sultan from Jinnah Medical and dental college. 

Objective of the event was to highlight the significance of practicing soft skills in the dentistry which is considered as important tool for the success of professional, academician and dental career.Soft skills basically are the cluster of personality traits, social graces, and personal habits, facility with language, friendliness and personal habits that mark people to varying degrees. Soft Skills are interpersonal, psychological, self-promoted and non-technical qualities for every practitioner and academician, which increases confidence, professionalism, co-ordination, friendliness and optimism in an individual to greater extent which is potent for not just their professional but as well as personal lives. 

3rd and 4th Year students in groups performed various OPD scenarios where they highlighted the importance of soft skills needed along with technical skills as health care professionals. They displayed various themes such as “Decision making skills, Counselling skills, breaking bad news, leadership skills, Conflict resolution etc”. All students participating were acknowledged with Certificate of participations and cash prize as reward was specially announced for the Winner group.

Event was well praised by the esteemed Principal, honorable judges and audience. It was highlighted that in today’s world of education, an increase in service industry and competitive practices emphasizes the need for soft skills.
