KARACHI: Under the esteemed  leadership of Prof Dr Navid Rashid Qureshi, the Department of Health professions education college of dentistry organised case based learning week for clinical BDS years (3rd and final year  students ) recently.

Case based learning week was organised by DHPE ( Dr Yusra Nasir, Dr Sabaa Shahid and Mr Moiz Majid) with the helo of the department’s  facilitators and volunteers. Department of Health professions education in LCMD, have emphasised the departments about the learners needs to see the relevance and be actively engaged in the topic under study as compare to the traditional teacher’s centered method of teaching in lectures and tutorials. 

Rationale for conducting CBL is to prepare students for clinical practice, through the use of authentic clinical cases. CBL is already being implemented one of the teaching modality for clinical BDS year at LCMD, which serves the purpose to link theory to practice, through the application of knowledge to the cases, using inquiry-based learning methods. 3rd and 4th Year students in groups performed.

3rd and Final year Students have actively participated in the activity, their teachers have kept them motivated throughout by appreciating their hard work  during CBL. All groups’ participation was scored & winners were acknowledged with certificates.

The Rationale of the event was highlighted wonderfully by Prof Dr Naheed Najmi (Registrar college of dentistry, Head of Department Operative dentistry) in the closing ceremony, where she appreciated the dedication and enthusiasm of students displayed throughout 2 days. Event was well praised by esteemed Principal and students. During Post event feedback students encouraged DHPE to organise more active learning events which will help them develop as competent health care professionals to serve the community in the best way possible.
