UCD organizes Oral Health Camp at Government English Medium School

Lahore: The Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry, University College of Dentistry, The University of Lahore, organized an Oral Health Camp recently at Government English Medium School, Kachi Kothi stop, Nawab Town, Lahore.

The Main goal of the Camp, aside from oral examination and diagnosis of oral health issues was to raise awareness among the children regarding their oral health. These efforts were aimed at making them conscious of the healthful methods they can adopt to maintain a healthy Oral environment in addition to the habits and lifestyle they could adopt now for a healthier future tomorrow.

The team mainly included students from 2nd Year BDS from University College of Dentistry, University of Lahore accompanied by Dr Obaid Bajwa and Dr Ahmed Bilal, Members of the Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry, UCD. The team was welcomed in the school by the senior staff of the school and a group of children.

They examined the oral conditions of over 250 students from various primary grades and carried out a provisional diagnosis for the dental conditions of each student. A demonstration in each classroom was also presented regarding proper brushing techniques suited for each student. They also communicated regarding oral hygiene, what the type of toothbrush bristles, which toothpaste to use.

The students diligently participated and showed curiosity into learning more on what could benefit their oral health.  Goody bags in collaboration with Colgate-Palmolive were also distributed among the event's participants.

The school administration lead, Ma’am Asma Khan, The Headmistress, fully supported and herself participated in the activity to highlight the importance of oral health.

Prof Dr Riaz Ahmed Warraich lauded and appreciated Dr Arooj ul Hassan (HOD Community and Preventive Dentistry, UCD) and his team for their efforts in providing Community Services in the areas that required it the most. He said that these selfless acts exemplified the values that we want to incorporate in our students. He assured his ongoing support again to the departments and students.
