ISLAMABAD: The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) recently decided to commence school winter vacations from January 3, 2022.

NCOC Head Asad Umar chaired a meeting to review the rescheduling of winter vacations of education institutes. Shafqat Mehmood, Federal Minister for Education, Dr Faisal Sultan, SAPM Health and all other stakeholders attended the session.

The forum said in a statement, “It has been decided that winter vacations for education institutions will commence from January 3, 2022 (except in areas affected by extreme weather conditions or fog). Provincial entities will notify accordingly”.

As data suggested that children might be susceptible to infection, hence the decision had been taken to maximise vaccine uptake amongst students in educational institutions, which could be best achieved in open schools as millions of students remain unvaccinated, it added.

The NCOC urged parents to get their children vaccinated as soon as possible to protect them and those around them.

However, the Sindh government had announced winter vacations in all educational institutions from December 20 to January 1, 2022.
